Mr Dancy Update Wednesday
Mr Dancy was up when i arrived. He already had breakfast and i took him for a walk and he went to sleep for about 2 hours. He did not want to get up finally he did and did not eat his lunch very very tired and continued to sleep at the table. I had a very difficult time getting him to move after about a hour he finally got up and went to his room and continued to sleep again. He did not want to get up for supper. I was able to get him to do some ball exercises and afterwards he still would not move and became very upset so i had to get barb to assist me with getting him up. Finally after getting him to the dining table he had supper and then went for walk and then prepared for bed and is now sleeping.

FYI...Lois had let me know that she had a meeting this morning, so worked today from Noon to 9pm. I got Dad up this morning...wanted to stay in bed a bit longer. FInally got him up around 8:45/9 ... did require some prompting. He showered and got dressed, then he had breakfast.
I took him over to the Emerald Isle House to help Dad start to transition and giv him an opportunity to check it out. The administrator Janice holds a weekly bingo game on Wednesdays at 11am. They were just starting when we arrived and Janice asked if he wanted to play and he said yes, so he did. Required assistance during the game, but he won the first one! He played with Janice, two of the other ladies living there, and one of the ladies' daughters who joins them there every week. The one lady (can't recall her name) who is 100 mentioned how happy she was to have a man sitting at the table, and when Dad got up to leave and said Goodbye she reached out her hand to touch Dad's hand.
While I was there I reviewed their 5-week menu book which I thought was very good---offered a lot of fresh fruit, salads, a variety of sandwiches for lunch and other meals as well as some of their own unique casseroles (recipes were shown as well.)
Dad was fairly tired for this visit, but was amenable and friendly. The two caregivers, Juana and Al were very friendly and quick to take over for me in assisting Dad with sitting, getting up, etc. (and I liked that their style was not to do it for him, but to be there as needed, guide, etc.) I also found out that the caregivers at the house are considered "live-in" meaning they are there 24 hours/day (except for their days off when a 3rd person is there 24 hours). Janice said they are like a "family" in which they sleep at night when everyone else is asleep, being available in emergencies, or occasional night care as needed. I mentioned Dad's occasional getting up recently...they said if it became more than occasional, that is when we might be charged more to have another person assist at night as needed.
Everyone has their own style of helping. I liked helping Dad a bit more and he was okay with it; and at the same time he is okay with you helping him less. He gets along with all types of people-- I am glad to note.
